Sodi Cookey was born to a musical family and spent much of his childhood growing up in the musical melting pot of Port Harcourt, Nigeria,and also as a chorister filled with the eclectic sounds of Classical, Highlife, Blues, Soul, Gospel , Jazz etc, recoring and performing across Nigeria.
He moved from London to Nigeria when he was 2 years old and returned to London with £50 and a rucksack on his back (which he still has to this day) to pursue a career in music.
His unique and eclectic blend of traditional African folk,Highlife, Soul, classical, Jazz and blues create a genre- defying musical experience filled with velvet rich-raw melodies and provocative storytelling.
Sodi has performed at London’s Jazz Festival , The Royal Festival Hall and headlined at Vienna’s prestigious ORF RadioKulturHaus ,Cheltenham Jazz Festival and other venues
